What monitor weight range is supported by the Humanscale M8.1?
The M8.1 supports a total monitor weight of 6–28 lb (2.7–12.7 kg). With one monitor, the maximum is 28 lb; with the dual-monitor crossbar, the maximum is 12.5 lb per monitor. These limits apply to the M8.1, not the newer M8 Pro.
What VESA mounting patterns does the M8.1 support?
The M8.1 VESA bracket supports 75 mm and 100 mm mounting-hole patterns. The installation manual specifies four supplied VESA screws; for recessed monitor mounting, use the supplied extended screws and plastic spacers, or the screws supplied with the monitor when appropriate.
How can the M8.1 be mounted to a desk?
The manual documents clamp, sliding-desk, and bolt-through mounting. Clamp mounting accommodates work surfaces up to 1.8 inches (48 mm) or 2.7 inches (68 mm), depending on the bracket holes. Bolt-through mounting uses a 1/2-inch hole and can accommodate a hole up to 4 inches (102 mm). The clamp mount is not for vertical surfaces.
How do I limit the M8.1 arm's rotation?
Each arm connection has an adjustable Smart Stop ring. Depending on its orientation, the ring can limit rotation to 90 degrees or 180 degrees, or allow 360-degree rotation without a stop. Set the stops so the dynamic-link head and monitors do not pass beyond the desk's rear edge.
How do I balance a monitor on the M8.1?
Press the upper arm link down to expose the adjustment screw, then use a 5 mm hex key. Turn toward minus if the arm rises by itself; turn toward plus if it falls under the monitor's weight. The counterbalance indicator shows the current setting, and the manual cautions against overtightening the screw.
How should cables be routed through the M8.1?
For a single monitor, route power and monitor cables through the flexible clips on the upper link, then under the lower-link cover and through its guides before locking the cover in place. Leave enough slack for arm rotation. The manual says not to insert extension cords or cords connecting one workstation to another.
Is the Humanscale M8.1 discontinued, and will existing units remain supported?
Humanscale's transition page says the M8.1 was scheduled for discontinuation by the end of the first quarter of 2026, with M8 Pro provided as the replacement direction. It also says existing orders and warranties remain valid. The page lists the M8.1 at 6–28 lb; do not apply the successor's higher capacity to an existing M8.1.
